Serbs and friends of the Serbian people, guests and hosts of the Serbian parish in St. Petersburg, gathered around their church on October 27, 2023, celebrating their 20th consecutive Serbian Festival.
It was a parade of Serbian hospitality, tradition, beauty, dignity, youth, talent and folklore, in the realization of honest and hardworking parishioners, led by the Church Committee, led by Mr. Ε½eljko ŠljiviΔ, Mrs. Gopa StanišiΔ with the Circle of Serbian Sisters "Sveta Petka".
On the first day of the festival, our youth had the opportunity to enjoy the music arranged by DJ Vojislav ZoriΔ. The second day of the Serbian Festival, on Saturday, started cheerfully with the folk music of our compatriot and pop artist Anica MilenkoviΔ, and continued after the intonation of the Serbian hymn BoΕΎe Pravda, the blessing of the priest, Father Dragan Ε½ariΔ, and the singing performance of OΔe Naš by the church choir "Sveti Dimitrije". , with cultural and artistic program, in the realization of which the beautiful and talented children of our St. Sava parish took part. The reciters Nikolina SrdiΔ, Ana LukiΔ, AnΔela LukiΔ and Katarina AndriΔ recited the poetry of Serbian poets Jovan JovanoviΔ Zmaj, Dragan LukiΔ and Ljubivoj RšumoviΔ.
St. Sava Singing Group, led by our dear Popadia, Mrs. Izvorinka Ε½ariΔ, performed a mix of Serbian songs, and the boy David KovaΔeviΔ presented himself with his winning song at the Minja Subota International Competition, "Homeland defends itself with beauty", by Ljubivoja RšumoviΔ.
The local Folklore Group, led by the director, Mrs. Mira Bulut and Mrs. Selena DespotoviΔ, "Serbian Pearl" are the pride and joy of their parish. This group with enormous experience celebrated their 40th anniversary this year, and at the Festival they presented their lavish choreography, danced points and costumes, and the program was enhanced by guests from several parishes in Florida: From the parish of St. King Milutin, Jacksonville, accompanied by priest, father Stanislav KravljaΔ performed the folklore groups: Una, Tara and Drina. The veterans showed more than just the game with their inspired performance. With the performance of the original UnaΔki Kolo, they also showed how we as a people have survived throughout history, playing our traditional kolo in silence, calling it Gluvo i Nemo. From the parish of Sveti Sava, North Port, and with their priest, father Saša ΔurΔeviΔ, the Heroina Milunka folk section performed SaviΔ, boldly and proudly carrying the great name of the most decorated Female Warrior ever. From our fraternal and neighboring parish Sveti ΔorΔe, from Clearwater, she presented herself for the first time and shined with her performances of the Igre from Serbia and the Shop Igre, the folk section of Bistra Voda, together with her priest Father Miloš Ε½draliΔ.
With this cultural and artistic program, the Serbian Rods rejoiced, led by Mr. SrΔan VasiljeviΔ and Mrs. Gordana SimoviΔ, we wanted to send a message to our countrymen in Serbia, Republika Srpska and Montenegro, that we who make up the diaspora, even though we are far from our homeland, will never and cannot become someone else, forget our roots, our mother tongue, Orthodoxy, Serbian Cyrillic script, Serbian tradition, our ancestors and heroes.
Article by Mrs. Gordana Simovic.
First-enthroned of the apostles, teachers of the universe: Entreat the Master of all to grant peace to the world, and to our souls great mercy!
O Lord, You have taken up to eternal rest and to the enjoyment of Your blessings the two divinely-inspired preachers, the leaders of the Apostles, for You have accepted their labors and deaths as a sweet-smelling sacrifice, for You alone know what lies in the hearts of men.
Today Christ the Rock glorifies with highest honor The rock of Faith and leader of the Apostles, Together with Paul and the company of the twelve, Whose memory we celebrate with eagerness of faith, Giving glory to the one who gave glory to them!
